PARENT ROLES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Parent roles required on game day fall into 3 categories: team officials, match officials and parent helpers.

 

Please ensure all of your parents in team, match official or helper roles have a valid WWCC. You can do this either by:

• Sighting their WWCC card (photo via phone is sufficient), or 

• Asking parents to register as volunteers on PlayHQ
   

Some roles also require other qualifications, e.g. First Aid for trainers.
 

Below are the descriptions of compliance requirements where relevant for all roles. You can download a summary of the requirements here.

Team Officials
 

Team Manager:
 

• Working With Children Check (WWCC)

• Must be registered as a Team Manager for the current season in PlayHQ
   

Coach:
 

• Working With Children Check (WWCC)

• Must be registered as a Volunteer for the current season in PlayHQ

• AFL Coaching Accreditation:

  • Junior (U8 - U12) - Foundation Junior Coach or Level 1 Junior Coach

  • Youth (U13+) - Foundation Youth Coach or Level 2 Youth Coach

• Ensure coaching accreditations are uploaded in PlayHQ - This will update the registration from Volunteer to Coach.
   

Assistant Coach:
 

• Working With Children Check (WWCC)

• Must be registered as a Volunteer for the current season in PlayHQ

• AFL Coaching Accreditation:

  • Junior (U11 - U12)* - Foundation Junior Coach or Level 1 Junior Coach

  • Youth (U13+) - Foundation Youth Coach or Level 2 Youth Coach

• Ensure coaching accreditations are uploaded in PlayHQ - This will update the registration from Volunteer to Coach.

* Note that U8 - U10 Assistant Coach does not require an AFL Coaching Accreditation
 

Trainer:
 

• Working With Children Check (WWCC)

• Must be registered as a Volunteer for the current season in PlayHQ

• Trainer qualifications:

  • First Aid - HTLAID003 (valid for 3 years)

  • CPR - HLTAID001 (valid for 1 year - yearly refresher course required)

  • ERC - required for U13+ only (valid for 2 years)
     

Runner:
 

• Working With Children Check (WWCC)

• Recommended to be registered as a Volunteer for the current season in PlayHQ
   

Water Carrier:
 

• Working With Children Check (WWCC)

• Recommended to be registered as a Volunteer for the current season in PlayHQ

Match Officials
 

Club Volunteer Umpire (Modified rules U8 - U10 & U12 Girls):
 

• Working With Children Check (WWCC)

• SMFJL Club Umpire Information Session

• Recommended to be registered as a Volunteer for the current season in PlayHQ
   

Umpire Escort:
 

• Working With Children Check (WWCC)

• Recommended to be registered as a Volunteer for the current season in PlayHQ
   

Boundary Umpire:
 

• Working With Children Check (WWCC)

• Recommended to be registered as a Volunteer for the current season in PlayHQ
   

Goal Umpire:
 

• Working With Children Check (WWCC)

• Recommended to be registered as a Volunteer for the current season in PlayHQ
   

Time Keeper:
 

• Working With Children Check (WWCC)

• Recommended to be registered as a Volunteer for the current season in PlayHQ

Parent Helpers - No qualifications required
 

• Scoreboard attendant - maybe required for home games at Wellington Reserve

• Canteen helpers for home games (2 parents per half at both Columbia Park and Wellington Reserve)

• Best and Fairest voters (2 parents per game, rostered throughout the season to ensure equal opportunity for every family to vote. Coach votes every week)

• Oranges & Lollies (can be rostered, shared among a few families or one family may volunteer to look after it for the whole season)

• Team Photographer - Optional, but really appreciated by the club to have pics for socials.
