ABOUT THE SMJFL

Overview

The Moorabbin Saints Junior Football League (MSJFL) was established in 1988 and was an unincorporated association.  In 2012, the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL) was established as a new entity and incorporated association. Members applied to join the new association.

In 2021, the SMJFL  comprised of 25 member clubs, 10,942 registered boy and girl players, 479 teams and 647 registered umpires (males and females).  The league provides competitions for girls from U10 to U18, for mixed teams from U8 to U14 and for boys from U15 to U17 ½ .

The league operates several pathway programs including an umpire academy, player pathway development academy and a coach academy. The league operates over six local government authorities (LGA) and Parks Victoria.

Our mission is to provide kids with a safe, supportive and inclusive environment while promoting health & wellbeing and maximising participation in Australian Football.

Our motto is “It’s about the kids”.  We have a strong focus on child safety and compliance with relevant legislation.  In addition, the league requires clubs to provide a number of volunteers on match day to ensure the safe and efficient operation of matches.

SMJFL Policies/Guidelines

The SMJFL are a direct affiliate member of AFL Victoria, which is responsible for overseeing, supporting and guiding football governing bodies across Victoria. As such the SMJFL and its member clubs are bound by the policies of AFL Victoria. The policies of AFL Victoria can be viewed on their web site.
